The dates for most sought after test for aspiring management students, the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016 has been announced. For this year, CAT 2016 exam will be conducted by IIM Bangalore for admission to the session 2017-18 & 2017-19.
CAT is a national level Entrance Exam conducted by the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) based on the policy of rotation amongst the older IIMs. This is a CBT (computer based test) comprised in the quantitative ability, verbal ability, data interpretation and logical reasoning.
All those institutes offer the Postgraduate Business Administration Programme through the CAT examination. The CAT 2016 will be conducted on 4th December 2016. The notification of the examination and other essential details has been issued on 31st July, 2016. On the basis of CAT 2016 percentile, admission will be given to the candidates in the management programs of IIM’s & other top B-schools.
CAT 2016 Offered Courses
Through CAT 2016, candidates may take admission in the following courses offered by 20 IIM’s, 7 IIT’s and top B Schools of the country like MDI Gurgaon, FMS Delhi, SPJIMR, XIM Bhubaneswar (XIMB), FORE School of Management New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, and other management institutes of the country.
Programmes offered by this top institutes viz. PGP, PGPEM, PGP-ABM, PGPPM, EPGPM, PGPSM, PGPWE, PGDM,PGDM IBM, PGDHRM, PGPEX, PGPBM, PGP PPM, PGP HRM, MBA and many others niche programs are extremely popular with students having decent CAT percentile.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s with minimum 50% marks from recognised University/ Institutions.
- Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD) categories must have at least 45% marks.
- Marks should be calculated based on the practice as followed by the respective University/ Institution.

Descriptive questions in CAT 2016
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) CAT Test always comprised of objective type questions and candidates were required to mark one answer out of the given 4 choices of the answer for each question. CAT 2014 exam had all the 100 questions based on multiple choice question format but CAT 2016 Entrance Test will have both, objective type questions and a few descriptive questions in each section.
