IIM Ranchi girl bags Rs 55 lakh package

Woman power has ruled the roost at this year's final placements at the Indian Institute of Management-Ranchi (IIM-R) with a girl bagging the highest package.

Amisha Chawla, student of the college's flagship postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) in this year's outgoing batch (2014-16) has earned a plump Rs 55 lakh per annum pay in a leading FMCG company at the on-campus placements. Chawla will join the company's affairs in the African continent from April end.

While the Haryana girl did not speak when contacted, the IIM-R administration said this year they had hunderd percent final placements. "This year's placement has recorded an overall 13% improvement from the 2013-15 academic session," Soumya Sarkar, head of the placement cell of the college said on Friday.

The college said the overall average annual package size was Rs 15.14 lakh. The highest domestic package in PGDM was Rs 25.5 lakh, the placement cell said. For the batches 2014-15 gender ratio male female is 58:42.

The B-school impressed postgraduate diploma in human resource management (PGDHRM) program also made an impressive show.

The IIM-R also witnessed a 7% increase in package volume from the last session with the top grosser walking away with Rs 20.2 lakh PA package.


The college also saw several top recruiters making a beeline outside the campus, with companies like Google, Make My Trip, RPG Group, Accenture, Deloitte and e-commerce companies like Ola taking part in the hiring. The college placement said the 69 companies turned up for recruiting with 35 of them (including Google) coming for the first time. Of them seven were e-commerce sites and five start-ups, Sarkar said.

IIM Ranchi Director Anindya Sen said, "Overall, the institution's placement has been good in comparison with its counterparts in Rohtak, Trichy and Sambalpur". Sen added that IIM-R is emerging as one of the most favoured institutions among students, because of its connectivity, weather and growing cosmopolitan culture.


With the fresh session set to begin in two months, the IIM Ranchi has set a 96.1% cut off for shortlisting candidates in the PGDM course. Amit Sachan, head of the admissions cell said 9772 candidates are in queue for 120 seats. The college has also raised its two year course fee for PGDM and PGDRHM courses by Rs 2.5 lakhs. Earlier, the course fee for six terms was Rs 10.5 lakhs.
