IIM Kozhikode is all set to start a brand new programme - MBA in Liberal Studies and Management for the upcoming batch 2021-23 year. This is a first of its kind and not offered by any B School of country. Incidentally, IIM Bangalore launched a new Program - 2 year full time MBA in Business Analytic very recently.
The full-time two-year management course will include subjects like philosophy, economics, literature and sociology. The program, is scheduled to start in June next year and IIM K will accept 20-25 students in its first batch. “The world is changing very quickly. it requires people to decode culture and technology. Data needs to be made sense of. The program would merge the job-worthiness of an MBA program with the academic rigour of a master’s degree at a university”, said Director Prof Debashis Chatterjee.
With changing times and market dynamics the expectations and requisite managerial skill sets are also changing at a fast pace. Requirements differ from industry to industry organisation to organisation. According to experts, such courses are bound to be developed as lot of recruiters are looking for managers who can bring in the "softer" elements of management - like how to work with machines and people together, stress management, etc. Earlier, managers needed to extract efficiency from their teams, but now there are machines to do ultra-efficient tasks. Further details can be found HERE.
Earlier IIM Kozhikode also announced the launch of a new Master of Science in Finance (MSF) programme aimed to cater to the banking and financial services sector for candidates with specialist skills and expertise in finance. This two-year full-time programme is designed to meet the significant transformation in the financial services brought out by technology and big data. The MSF programme is a specialised professional qualification with exclusive focus on financial theory and application compared to traditional MBA, which provides broad foundation of management topics, with an option of specialisation in finance.
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode was instituted in 1996 by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of the state of Kerala and the first batch of 42 students commenced in 1997 at the temporary campus at the National Institute of Technology Calicut in 2000. IIM Kozhikode opened a satellite campus in Kochi in June 2012 to enhance the institute's offerings in Executive Education, especially full-time and part-time programmes targeted at middle and senior level executives.
