IIM Calcutta 51st Annual Convocation held at Joka Campus. April 02, 2016
The 51st Convocation at IIM Calcutta, Joka campus was declared ‘Open’ by the Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Calcutta Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan,
who is the founder and current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Rediff.com.
Director, IIM Calcutta, Prof. Saibal Chattopadhyay, introduced the Chief Guest and congratulated the batch passing out. He specially
mentioned the names of the toppers and presented the Annual Report. He also mentioned about the internationally renowned CEMS MIM,
alliance of international-calibre professors from leading universities and business schools, multinational companies and non-profit organizations, whose
only Indian member was IIM Calcutta. The top-ranked CEMS Master’s in International Management (CEMS MIM) is a joint degree delivered by
CEMS Academic Members. It is a postgraduate, pre-experience degree open to a select group of students enrolled in a Master’s programme at one of the 30
leading universities in the CEMS Alliance.
This year IIM C had the largest batch comprising of 439 students but, 100% final placement was achieved in just 2.5 days. Total 439 students receiving
nearly 500 offers during the entire process, including 21 international ones, The final placement report however is yet to be disclosed. The average CTC
offered in the campus last year was 18.49 lpa. The average CTC offered in the campus for last PGPEX (Post Graduate Programme for Executives) batch is 22.69
Chief Guest, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India & Chairman Scientific Advisory Committee to
Cabinet; an Indian Physicist who is known for his integral role in India's nuclear weapons program who coordinated test preparation for the Pokhran I in
1975 and Pokhran II in 1998.
Talking about leadership in management Dr. Chidambaram referred to Mahatma Gandhi who was not only a change agent for the masses but a participative leader
in nature, capable of changing the minds of people to bring a change in the society. India shall surge ahead and be a leader in the global arena through
its dominance in technology.
