IIM Calcutta Graduation Ceremony: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM C or IIM Calcutta) celebrated its 61st Annual Convocation today at its Joka campus, marking a milestone for 561 graduating students. The ceremony was a blend of tradition and forward-looking vision, as the institute conferred degrees upon 459 MBA students, 90 MBA for Executives (MBAEx) students, and 12 PhD scholars.

Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of The Tata Power Company Limited, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his convocation address, Dr. Sinha emphasized the critical need for sustainable leadership and innovation in the energy sector and beyond. He urged the graduates to leverage their management expertise to solve complex global challenges like climate change and resource scarcity.

Jagadesh Kumar, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, highlighted the shifting landscape of the global workplace. “In an era where automation is ubiquitous, your value lies in higher-order skills—judgment, creativity, deep domain knowledge, and ethical reasoning,” he stated. He encouraged the Class of 2026 to transform the vast information at their fingertips into actionable knowledge that serves society.

Academic Excellence and Global Rankings: Director Professor Alok Kumar Rai presented the Annual Report, noting that IIM Calcutta continues to solidify its global standing. He proudly mentioned that the flagship MBA program ranked 50th globally and 3rd in India in the QS Master’s in Management Rankings 2026. Additionally, the institute secured re-accreditation from AACSB International for six years, a testament to its rigorous academic standards.
A Touch of Tradition: A highlight of the ceremony was the convocation attire, which featured intricate Kantha stitching, a traditional Bengali needlework art. “We want our students to carry a piece of Bengal’s heritage with them as they step into global roles,” Prof. Rai remarked.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards. Ankit Keshwani emerged as the top ranker in the MBA program, followed by Pratik Tibrewal and Shivam Agarwal.
