IIM Shortlisting, Admission and Eligibility Criteria

IIM Admission Criteria

Admission Process:

The selection of the candidates for admission to the 2024-26 Batch of the PGP at IIMA is a two-step process.

In the first step, candidates are short-listed for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2023 score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme described below.

1- Preliminary Screening

The candidates must attain the minimum cut-offs in the sectional percentile as per the table below to be considered for all the subsequent stages.

Application Rating Score: AR= (A+B+C+D)

Normalised AR score of an applicant is equal to their AR score divided by average of the top 50 AR scores from the applicants’ pool, (the applicants’ pool in this case being defined as the group of candidates who appear for CAT-2023 and apply to IIMA.)

Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) & Personal Interview (PI)

Shortlisting will be carried out in two stages.

Stage 1: (From the Applicants’ pool: Selection of exceptional performers across different disciplines)

IIMA endeavours to recognise exceptional performers in terms of their previous academic records as well as their performance in CAT across diverse academic backgrounds. Towards that, a certain number of top candidates from each of the academic disciplines will be shortlisted for AWT & PI on the basis of their composite score ‘CS’ (see below) subject to their fulfilling certain criteria.

CS (Composite Score) = 0.35 (Normalised AR score) + 0.65 (Normalised overall score in CAT)

Selection Process :

IIMB uses multiple parameters and adopts a 2- Phase Selection. The selection process, parameters and weights used are uniform for all applicants within a category. Sufficient candidates are shortlisted at each stage from each social category to meet the reservation requirement for each group, as applicable at that time.

Phase 1

  1. A first shortlist is prepared comprising candidates who have secured a pre-determined minimum score on all sections of CAT 2023. Candidates obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score, at the minimum, in all sections of CAT-2023 will only be considered. The percentile cut-off 2 scores for admission, applied to CAT 2022, are shown in Table 1. All the subsequent processing, standardization and selection are limited to candidates selected to the first short list alone. Therefore, the CAT score alone is used as the basis for arriving at the first short list.

* These are cut-offs used for preparing the first short-list. The scores of those called for interviews were higher

2. a) For all candidates in the first shortlist as stated in Table (1), a candidate’s percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose.

b) For all candidates in the first shortlist as stated in Table (1), an adjusted score is calculated for each of the candidates based on the final scores obtained by the candidate in his/her bachelors’ degree and/or professional degrees, as the case may be. Incomplete or intermediate graduate scores are considered only if the candidate’s final score is pending. Thus, for final year bachelor’s degree candidates, their incomplete graduation score would be taken in lieu of final graduation score.

c) In case of candidates who have completed their Class 12/ Bachelors during the pandemic and do not have any score on their transcripts, no weightage shall be given to these components (Class 12 and/or Bachelors as applicable) and the total pre-PI score of the candidate will be scaled to 100. Please note that submission of relevant transcripts is mandatory.

3. For all candidates in the first shortlist, candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weightage under the category of professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weightage under the said category. The professional course score is also standardized for all candidates in the first shortlist. For the purpose of normalisation, the average, standard deviation and adjusted score is computed by considering the scores (final as applicable) of all applicants with Professional qualification in the first shortlist

The weight assigned for Professional qualification at the Pre-PI stage is 10

4. IIMB duly recognizes the value of experience in enhancing the learning experience for a student in the classroom. Accordingly, it assigns credit for a candidate’s work experience in the selection process.

For all candidates in the first shortlist, the score / weight for work experience is calculated as: pre-PI score for Work Experience

 = 10x/36 if 0 < x < 36 = 10

if x >= 36 where x is the months of work experience up to July 2023, as captured in CAT application form (and substantiated in the application to IIMB).

This implies that the score will peak at 36 months work experience, and will remain at that level for candidates with work experience exceeding 36 months. For candidates in the first shortlist who have undergone a professional course of study listed in Para no.3 above, the maximum of the work experience score OR the professional course score is considered.

5. Candidates will be required to produce the following as evidence of work experience for each instance of employment claimed by the candidate:

a) Letter from each of the employers that the candidate claims to have worked with. The letter should state the following details: (i) the starting date of employment, (ii) ending date of that respective employment, (iii) positions occupied during employment with that particular employer. In case the candidate claims to have moved through different positions / titles during the period, the application should provide the starting date of each of those positions, pay with break up during each of the positions held and a brief description of the responsibilities during each of those positions held by the candidate. The letter should be furnished on a letter head of the employer’s organisation, should carry a seal of the employer and be duly affirmed by the authorized signatory

b) In addition the candidate should provide a brief write up of the responsibilities held by the candidate in each of the positions in each of the organisations in which the candidate claims to have worked. In case the employer had opened a provident fund (PF) account during the period of employment, the candidate should provide the PF registration number.

c) The name and designation of official to whom the candidate reported and the contact coordinates of the official to whom IIMB may write in case it wishes to verify the employment related claim that is being made.

6. For all candidates in the first shortlist, the weights for the parameters at the pre-PI stage are as follows : CAT = 55 , 10th board = 10, 12th board = 10, Bachelors = 10, Gender Diversity = 05 , Work Experience / Professional Course (whichever weight is higher) = 10.

The 55 points for CAT are derived from the performance in each of the three sections as follows: Verbal & Reading Comprehension (VARC) – 19 points, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) – 21 points, and Quantitative Aptitude (QA) – 15 points.

The gender diversity component is applicable only for computing the pre–PI score for deciding on interview calls and will not be applicable for phase 2 of the admissions process leading up to the final offers of admission.

7. For all candidates in the first shortlist, the top 10 candidates in each of the following category automatically qualify for PI: total score in CAT, adjusted Bachelors’ score (commerce, arts, and science disciplines) and Professional (CA / ICWA / CS). These candidates are given a chance to appear for PI due to their exceptional performance in these categories. However, at the end of Phase 2, all such candidates must merit selection based on the composite aggregate score, like any other candidate.

For all candidates in the first shortlist, normalization or standardization in any component stated above is carried out as per the following formula. All standardization is done with reference to the qualifying first shortlist or its subdivisions; Standardized score, truncated between 0 and weight (wt) is computed from the raw score (val) as: Max [0, min {wt, wt/2 + ((val-mean) / sd) * wt / 6}]

Phase 2

8. The topics chosen will typically draw on issues and developments that relate to current sociopolitical, economic and business affairs, though other topics that require more creative thinking may also be included. The time provided for the WAT will typically be about 30 minutes. The performance of each candidate on the Written Ability Test (WAT) will be scored in terms of the content and style of the note. Each interviewer will use the Personal Interview to comprehensively evaluate the candidate’s motivation and ability to fit in to and benefit from the PGP. The average of the scores given by the interviewers in the personal interview will be used in calculating the multi-factor score based on which offers of admission will be finally made, while for the WAT, the scores given by an independent evaluator will be considered.

All candidates will be required to provide two confidential reference letters from their employers or from teachers in the academic insitutions where they had been students previously. These reference letters will also be used in the personal interview evaluation.

9. The work experience weight (10) assigned while computing Pre-PI score is scaled down to 5 during the post interview process to arrive at the composite score. This work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score, as evaluated by the interviewing panel as an assessment ofthe relevance of the work experience to the programme. The quality of work experience score will be evaluated on a 5 point scale (0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2) by each member of the panel during the interviews. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the prePI work experience score and accordingly the work / professional experience components used in Phase 1 will be revised to arrive at a weighted work experience score.

10. The scores from all past academic performance will also be updated, if required, on the basis of actual mark sheets / grade cards submitted. Unless otherwise mentioned, percentages would be calculated by considering all subjects that the candidate has appeared for in the examination.

In case of candidates who have completed their Class 12/ Bachelors during the pandemic and does not have any score on their transcripts, no weightage shall be given to these components (Class 12 and/or Bachelors as applicable) but the total pre-pi score of the candidate will be scaled to 100. Please note that submission of relevant transcripts is mandatory

11. For all candidates called for interviews, the weights for the parameters at the post-PI stage are as follows : Personal interview = 40, WAT = 10, CAT = 25 , 10th board = 5, 12th board = 5, Bachelors = 5, Work Experience / Professional Course (whichever weight is higher) = 10.

The 25 points for CAT are derived from the performance in each of the three sections as follows: Verbal & Reading Comprehension (VARC) – 8.75 points, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) – 10 points, and Quantitative Aptitude (QA) – 6.25 points.

12. The final offers of admission to candidates selected from each category will be made strictly on the basis of the final aggregate score as mentioned in (11). 6 Since IIMB follows a comprehensive multi-criteria process at the pre-PI stage, it is able to identify many candidates for the PI who have an excellent academic record and work experience but who, while doing well enough in the CAT to be in the first shortlist, may have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates effectively replace candidates who have only a high CAT score but have scored poorly in terms of their past academic record and work experience. IIMB emphasizes consistent and high performance in past academics and all other parameters.

Admission Policy for the MBA Programme (Batch 2024-26)

The MBA Programme is a two-year full-time post-graduate degree course.has a two-tier structure consisting of core curriculum (compulsory credit courses and compulsory non-credit courses), a summer internship (compulsory industry training between first and second year) and elective courses (optional courses in the second year).

Minimum Academic Eligibility for Admission to MBA Programme

A] Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the college/institution/university from which the candidate has obtained the degree. In case a candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the college/institution/university from where bachelor’s degree has been obtained. In case the college/institution/university confirms that they do not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

B] For candidates who have completed an integrated masters or dual degree directly after their 12th/HSC, the percentage of marks obtained as per the college/institution/university which is considered as equivalent to the bachelor’s degree will be considered. In case the dual degree for UG and PG marks are not separated by the college/institution/university, the PG marks shall be considered as a UG marks for eligibility and used for deriving composite scores in any stage of admission process.

C] Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2024 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her college/institute/university (issued on or before June 30, 2024) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. For candidates yet to complete the integrated masters or dual degree directly after the 12th/HSC, the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in all the years/semesters till Aug 3, 2023 will be considered.

D] Candidates who graduated in the years 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023, for whom the university did not conduct the exams or did not award marks or CGPA but awarded only pass or pass marks or promotion in one or more years/semesters of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification, can also apply. Such candidates will have to submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of his/her college/institute/university stating that they did not conduct the exams or did not award marks or CGPA but awarded only pass or pass marks or promotion in one or more years/semesters, as the case may be.

E] A candidate who has not received his/her graduation results at the time of registration will have to produce certificates and mark sheets in original along with the photocopies as soon as the respective college/institution/university publishes the results, but NOT LATER THAN DECEMBER 31, 2024, failing which his/her registration as a student of IIM Calcutta will be automatically cancelled and he/she will be required to withdraw from the MBA Programme forthwith. Any candidate who submits the mark sheets which do not clearly indicate that he/she has passed the Bachelor’s Degree course or equivalent, and also submits Provisional Certificate from an affiliated College/Institute would, in addition, be required to produce an authorization certificate from the University stating that such an affiliated college/institute is authorized/empowered to issue such a certificate on behalf of the University.

* The percentage of marks obtained in Class X and Class XII would be calculated based on the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marksheet of grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage.

Note: General (GEN), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes- Non creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Persons with Disability (PwD).

Candidates who clear the Minimum Eligibility Criteria of Stage – 1 are only considered for Stage -2.

Stage 2: Shortlisting for Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI)

The Stage 2 process applies to all eligible candidates who have successfully completed the registration process in Stage 1 for the admissions to IIMK and it is for the determination of the candidates to be called for personal interview (PI). A shortlist of candidates in each category will be prepared based on an Aggregate Index Score (AIS). The AIS is computed based on the performance in CAT 2023, Class X, Class XII, Gender/Academic diversity criterion, and work experience. The weight of each component in the AIS is as follows:

Table 2: Aggregate Index Score Computation for Stage 2 Shortlist

COMPONENT WEIGHT
CAT 2023 Index Score45%
Class X Percentage Score25%
Class XII Percentage Score15%
Gender/Academic Diversity Score10% / 5 %
Work Experience Score 5%

The details of each component are given as follows

1) CAT Index Score Scaled scores from the three sections (with equal weightages) of CAT 2023 will be considered for the computation of the CAT Index Score. The CAT Index Score will carry a weight of 45%.

2) SSC/Class X/IB/Equivalent Percentage Score The percentage of marks obtained in SSC/Class X/IB/Equivalent would be calculated based on the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marks sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage. The SSC/Class X/IB/Equivalent percentage scores are first adjusted by dividing each score by the highest percentage score obtained in the Board and then that adjusted score is multiplied by 25. The database of SSC/Class X/IB/Equivalent percentage scores of all CAT applicants for the past three years including the current year is used for identifying the highest percentage score of a Board.

3) HSC/ClassXII/IB/Equivalent/Diploma Percentage Score The percentage of marks obtained in HSC/Class XII/IB/Equivalent/Diploma would be calculated based on the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marks sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage. The HSC/Class XII/IB/Equivalent/Diploma percentage scores are first adjusted by dividing each score by the highest percentage score obtained in the stream of that Board and then that adjusted score is multiplied by 15. The database of HSC/Class XII/IB/Equivalent/Diploma percentage scores of all CAT applicants for the past three years including the current year is used for identifying the highest percentage score of a stream in a Board. Candidates who have not received any marks for their HSC/Class XII/IB/Equivalent/Diploma due to the outbreak of Covid19 pandemic, the weightage allocated (15%) shall be proportionately split between the CAT 2023 Index Score and Class X Percentage Score.

4) Gender/Academic Diversity Score Marks are awarded for gender/academic diversity. Only female/transgender candidates are eligible for a gender diversity score of 10. A candidate with (or pursuing) a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a discipline other than Engineering/Technology will be eligible for the academic diversity score of 5. A candidate is entitled to only one of two applicable diversity scores, from either gender diversity or academic diversity and not for both.

5) Work Experience Score

  • Previous work/professional experience will carry a weight of up to 5%, depending on the length of service as on December 31, 2023. Only fulltime remunerative work experience after Graduation/(CA/CMA(ICWA)/CS)* will be considered. Part-time/Project/Internship/ Articleship/Pre-Graduation/Fellowship work experience will not be counted as work experience. A candidate with a work experience of 6 months or above will be eligible for work experience score.
  • Regarding self-employment/partnership experience: fulltime self-employment must be established using income tax returns pertaining to years of employment or assessment year preceding to year of CAT registration, and any two of the following documents: i. Registered partnership deed, ii. MCA/RoC firm registration certificate, iii. GST registration of firm, iv. Firm’s audited statements of account (for at least two continuous financial years), v. DIPP Certificate of Recognition. At least one of these documents must indicate the name of the firm and the name of the candidate as Promoter/Director.

Stage 3: Final Shortlist

The short-listed candidates will have to appear for a Written Ability Test (WAT)followed by a Personal Interview (PI). IIM Kozhikode will conduct the WAT and PI at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and New Delhi. The entire process will last for a half-day (morning or afternoon). In this process, the candidates will be writing an essay, followed by PI. The essay topic will be announced at the venue just before the start of the WAT session. During the PI process, the panel will evaluate the academic efforts and disposition, general awareness and social disposition, attitude, personality and communication and the quality of work experience of each candidate. The resume score will be calculated based on the quality of academic, professional qualifications and professional certifications

After the conclusion of the WAT and PI process, the final scores will be computed (see Table 3) based on the performance in CAT 2023, PI, WAT and resume score. Category-wise merit list will be prepared based on the final scores. Admission offers will be made to candidates following the merit list as per the Government of India reservation norms.

PGP (2024-26) Admissions Process

Admission to the PGP 2024-26 batch will involve two phases. In Phase 1, candidates will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) process. In Phase 2, the final merit list will be prepared for the offer of admission to the PGP 2024-26 batch. The process in each of these phases is described in the following sections:

PHASE 1: SHORTLISTING FOR PERSONAL INTERVIEW (PI)

Preliminary Screening

1. All candidates who have opted (as per the CAT-2023 application) for the IIM Shillong PGP 2024-26 batch are eligible for consideration in Phase 1. The minimum requirement of marks in various sections of CAT for candidates across different categories to be considered for shortlisting for the PI process is given in Table 1.

2. Post Step 1, Composite Scores will be calculated for eligible candidates. This score is based on the total CAT percentile and normalized application rating score (NARS), having a weightage of 60% and 40%, respectively. NARS will be based on scores assigned to Class X and Class XII (Table 2) percentages and scores for months of experience (Table 3).

Application Rating Score (ARS) = A+B+C To arrive at NARS,

IIM Shillong will use the applicant’s individual ARS divided by the average of the top 50 ARS from the applicants’ pool (the applicants’ pool in this case being defined as the group of candidates who appear for CAT-2023 and apply to IIM Shillong).

3. The candidates will then be ranked based on their Composite Score.

4. The candidates, post step 2, will be grouped as per their academic disciplines in graduation as reported in CAT-2023 (refer Annexure 1). From each academic discipline, a certain percentage (𝛼) of candidates would be shortlisted for PI as follows: If 𝑁: Number of candidates appeared for CAT – 2023, and, 𝑔: Number of academic disciplines 𝑁i: the number of candidates present in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline, ∀ 𝑖 = 1, 2, 3, … … 𝑔. The percentage of candidates eligible for shortlisting for any 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline will be as given in Table 4.

Table 4: Computation of the percentage of candidates from various academic disciplines

Academic disciplines(𝒊) Number of Candidates present in Academic Disciplines (𝑵𝒊) Percentage of Candidates from each Academic Disciplines (𝜶𝒊)
1𝑁1𝛼1 = 𝑁1 𝑁 × 100

𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒, 𝛼𝑖 = 𝑁𝑖 𝑁 × 100; ∀𝑖 = 1,2,3. . . 𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 0 ≤ 𝛼𝑖 ≤ 1

5. The identified pool of eligible candidates in respective academic disciplines (i) would be further grouped as per their social categories, the number of candidates in a social category being 𝑀𝑗, ∀ 𝑗 = E, 𝑇, 𝐶, 𝑂. Thus,
𝑀E: Number of candidates in category EWS
𝑀T: Number of candidates in category ST
𝑀C: Number of candidates in category SC
𝑀o: Number of candidates in category OT As per the academic disciplines, the candidates will be grouped as given in Table 5.

Thus, Mj i is the number of candidates in ith academic discipline of jth category ∀ i = 1, 2, 3, …, g, and ∀ j = E, T, C, O. This would mean:

𝑀E i : Number of candidates in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline in category EWS,
𝑀T i : Number of candidates in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline in category ST,
𝑀C i : Number of candidates in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline in category SC, and 𝑀𝑂 𝑖 : Number of candidates in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline in category OT.

6. Finally, the number of candidates to be shortlisted for PI will be based on the following: i. A total number of X candidates will be shortlisted for PI. The value of X will be decided based on the overall performance of the candidates in CAT- 2023, the number of seats offered by IIM Shillong, possible overlap and attendance trends during the PI process of the past years.

With 𝑋= Number of candidates to be called for PI, the number of candidates to be shortlisted in any social category j will be 𝑋𝑗, ∀ 𝑗 = E, 𝑇, 𝐶, 𝑂, where

𝑋E= 10% of X rounded to the higher nearest integer
𝑋𝑇= 7.5% of X rounded to the higher nearest integer
𝑋𝐶= 15.0% of X rounded to the higher nearest integer
𝑋𝑂= 67.5% of X rounded to the higher nearest integer

5% of the shortlisted [ ] XjE j  candidates will comprise of Differently Abled (DA) candidates.

Candidates shortlisted for PI process in the 𝑖 𝑡ℎ academic discipline from the 𝑗 𝑡ℎ category will be 𝑋𝑗 𝑖 ∀ 𝑗 = E, 𝑇, 𝐶, 𝑂, and

∀𝑖 = 1,2,3, … . , 𝑝 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑗 = 𝐸; 𝑝 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝐸,

The number of candidates shortlisted in various academic disciplines in respective categories will be calculated as:

𝑋𝐸 𝑖 = 𝑚𝑎𝑥 [ 𝛼𝑖 ∑ 𝛼𝑖 𝑝 𝑖=1 × 𝑋𝐸, 1]in category EWS
𝑋𝑇 𝑖 = 𝑚𝑎𝑥 [ 𝛼𝑖 ∑ 𝛼𝑖 𝑞 𝑖=1 × 𝑋𝑇, 1]in category ST

and 𝑋𝑂 𝑖 = 𝑚𝑎𝑥 [ 𝛼𝑖 ∑ 𝛼𝑖 𝑠 𝑖=1 × 𝑋𝑂, 1]in category OT

The total number of 𝑋 candidates will consist of i XE candidates in EWS, i XT candidates in ST, i XC candidates in SC, and i X O candidates in OT categories falling under different Academic disciplines will be shortlisted as per Table 6.

7. The candidates in a given social category, academic discipline, and gender would be ranked based on the decreasing order of their Composite Score as calculated in Step 2.

PHASE 2: MERIT LISTING FOR OFFERING ADMISSION TO PGP 2024-26 BATCH After the PI process, the scores of PI will be used, along with ARS, overall CAT performance, and gender score of the shortlisted candidates, for preparation of the final merit list. To improve the gender diversity, Gender (G) will entail a score of 10 being awarded to all candidates, except those belonging to the gender of maximum proportion appearing in CAT 2023. The above scores of a candidate will be computed, provided the cutoff percentages for the PI process. There will be different cut-off scores for candidate’s performance in the PI process in various categories, as shown in Table 7. While each candidate will be evaluated for communication proficiency, the score for the same will not be used in arriving at the final score.

Reservation Policy
The Institute abides by the reservation policy as per the Government of India provisions as applicable to IIM Shillong.

This document outlines the process for selecting candidates for admission to the Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) at the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) for the batch of 2024-26.

The admission process seeks to identify the most promising candidates for the PGP the batch of 2024-26 at IIMV. The institute uses multiple parameters, including academic performance in the 10th standard examination, 12th standard examination, bachelor’s degree examination, scores in the Common Admission Test (CAT), and performance in personal interviews, to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP program. Relevant work experience, if any, is also given weight in the selection process. The use of multiple criteria aligns with empirical research on selection, which shows that selection processes that utilize multiple criteria are more effective. The CAT score is not only used as a selection criterion but also to establish the minimum level of proficiency expected from candidates in respective areas, as indicated by section-wise minimum scores in the CAT. Multiple criteria are used to arrive at a composite score for each candidate, which is used to make the final selection. The remainder of this document explains this process in detail.

IIMV follows a three-phase selection process, and these selection criteria are applied in each phase. The selection process, parameters, and weights used are uniform for all applicant categories. Sufficient candidates are shortlisted at each stage in each category to meet the reservation requirements for each group, as applicable at that time.

Phase-1

In the first phase process, all eligible candidates who have appeared for CAT 2023 and have selected IIM Visakhapatnam as one of their preferences in the CAT 2023 Registration form will be considered. Candidates who qualify at this stage will be asked to apply via submission of an online application form for admission to PGP 2024-26 of IIMV through the IIMV website.

1. The first shortlist of candidates is based on candidates securing minimum section-wise and aggregate percentile scores in the CAT 2023. Candidates obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT 2023 will only be considered. The percentile cut-off scores used for CAT 2023 are shown in Table 1. All the subsequent processing, standardization and selection is limited to candidates belonging to this first shortlist alone. This means that the CAT score alone (for candidates who have selected IIM Visakhapatnam as one of their preferences in the CAT 2023 Registration form) is used as the basis for arriving at the first shortlist.

6. All the Phase-1 shortlisted candidates, who have applied for admission to IIMV by filling the detailed online application (hereinafter referred as Qualified Confirmed Candidates) by the stipulated date, will be considered in Phase-2 of the admission process.

7. In order to prepare the Phase-2 shortlist, the candidates’ percentage scores in the 10th and 12th Board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that Board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th Board, for this purpose.

8. For all Qualified Confirmed Candidates, final scores obtained by the candidates are used for the bachelor’s degree and professional degrees (if any). Incomplete or intermediate scores are considered only if the candidate’s final score is pending. Thus, for final year bachelor’s degree candidates (at the time of CAT 2023 registration), their incomplete graduation score would be taken in lieu of final graduation score. The Graduation scores are adjusted within their respective streams. This gives the adjusted score for the bachelor’s degree for all Qualified Confirmed Candidates.
