We have been receiving lot of queries on MCA and whether it is an alternative to B.Tech.   Well it is definitely a very good alternative but it is not equivalent to B.Tech, rather it is a notch above B. Tech which is graduation while MCA is post graduation and offers a Masters Degree.   Lets simplify and put in perspective the advantages / disadvantages of both.

All About NIMCET Exam 2022 & MCA Admission in NIT

MCA is a 3 years course after 3 years of BCA or Graduation with Maths as one of the subject. So total years required to pass out is 3 + 3 years = 6 years after 12th class.

BTech (CS/IT ):  4 years course, after 12th class with Phy, Chem, Maths

  • Students who may not make it to their choice of institute for B.Tech can go for this.
  • Extra 2 years compared to 4 years of B.Tech is required, after 12th class. This 2 years may or may not give much return in the short run. As job offers for MCA are almost similar with may some what higher salary. But moving ahead in the career, the Masters Degree may help.

Placements:    IT/ITeS companies recruit MCA & B.Tech for entry-level positions and are considered to be almost at par by recruiters. The offers may or may not differ. MCA candidates may be offered a marginally higher salary.
