Dr. Khanna has a wealth of professional history to offer. Having worked with Siemens Ltd. , Mumbai, in the area of engineering and industrial automation, she has 29 years in academia and four years in industry. A part of the Somaiya Vidyavihar University, she was Director and Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies at K J Somaiya Institute of Management. Her appointment at N. L. Dalmia Institute is viewed as a calculated effort to boost its academic reputation and increase its industry interaction.

Dr. Khanna is an expert in marketing, branding, consumer behavior, and sustainability management; he has greatly added to study in these fields. Five doctoral candidates have been successfully supervised by her; her work has appeared in numerous foreign magazines including the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Strategic Marketing, and the Journal of Marketing for Higher Education.
Apart from her scholarly accomplishments, Dr. Khanna has filled several important roles in educational government. From 2015 to 2023, she served as a member of the Executive Council of the All India Management Association (AIMA); currently she is on the Board of Governors at the Management and Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC) in New Delhi. Furthermore, she served as Entegra Ltd. ‘s Independent Lady Director in fiscal year 2015–16.
