GATE Exam. IIT M Tech Applications & NIT PhD Admissions 2026

Updated as on Apr 02, 2026.  GATE 2026 Exam: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is currently in its post-examination phase. Organized by IIT Guwahati, the exam was conducted across four days in February.

Once the results are out on March 19, you have two main pathways:

• COAP 2026: For admissions into M.Tech programs at IITs and for PSU job offers.

• CCMT 2026: For centralized admissions into M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

GATE Admit Card : IIT Guwahati, has updated the official website to state that the date has been pushed back. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 admit card release date has been postponed. The admit card was scheduled to be released on January 2, and now the new date for the same will be announced soon.

COAP 2026 Registrations: The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) 2026 has officially launched by IIT Roorkee. Registration for COAP 2026 opened on March 27, 2026, following the release of the GATE 2026 results. This portal is a mandatory step for any colleges seeking M.Tech admission at an IIT based on GATE scores.

GATE Result: The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) announced the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) results on March 19. Candidates can now download their GATE 2025 scorecards starting March 28 from the official website. To access the result, candidates must log in to the portal.

The GATE 2025 exam, conducted for 30 papers, took place between February 1 and February 16 across multiple sessions. The response sheets were released on February 27, and candidates were given the opportunity to raise objections to the answer keys between February 27 and March 1, 2025.

GATE will be conducted for 30 test papers. The candidates can appear either in one or up to two test papers. The mode of examination will be in English.

Candidates who wish to apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering  (GATE) 2025 will be able to fill out the registration form on the official website . “The Application Portal for GATE  is expected to open by 30th August 2024,” reads the official website of GATE 2025.

GATE Registration: How to apply

Step 1: Visit the official website at https://gate2026.iitg.ac.in/

Step 2: On the homepage, click on the link given for ONLINE REGISTRATION and register yourself. 

Step 3: Now again go to the homepage, click on FILL APPLICATION FORM, and log in. 

Step 4: Now proceed with filling out the GATE application form 2024 and upload all the necessary documents. 

Step 5: Make the payment of online application fees. 

Step 6: Download the confirmation page and take its printout for further use. A direct link to apply online will be provided here once the GATE application link is activated on the official portal.

GATE Eligibility

 Education: Candidates who have completed graduation or are in their third or higher year of an undergraduate degree are eligible. Those who have/are pursuing a degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, or arts can apply.

Nationality: Candidates should be citizens of India to apply for GATE. Those from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, or the UAE are also eligible.

GATE International Examination Centre: GATE 2025 Examination will be conducted in the following cities: Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore.

CCMT NIT M Tech Admission 

A coloured print hard copy of the GATE  admit card is to be carried and one valid id proof (in original) which can be aadhar card / voter id / PAN card / college id / employee id / driving license.
International registered candidates are required to carry their passport / college id / government issued id / employee id for identification purposes.
A virtual calculator will be provided to participants.

New Subjects In GATE : The 2025 edition of GATE exam will see some changes, including introduction of two new subjects — Environmental Science and Engineering, or ES, and Humanities and Social Science, or XS.

Maximum Two papers in GATE 2025: A candidate may appear either in ONE or TWO subject papers. For candidates who choose Two papers, the combination must be from the approved list of combinations and subject to the availability of infrastructure and date.

A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program.

IIT Kanpur GATE 2023 Exam Answer Key

A candidate who has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2023 exam.

However, the candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Planning, etc.

Candidates who have obtained / are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.
