IIIT M Tech Admission 2026: Admissions for the M.Tech 2026 session at IIIT Hyderabad are currently open. Unlike most other IIITs, admission here is primarily conducted through the institute’s own entrance exam, the PGEE (Postgraduate Entrance Examination), rather than just GATE scores. The last date to apply for PGEE is March 31, 2026. Candidates can apply online. The Entrance Exam date is 2nd May 2026 (02:00 PM to 05:00 PM)
All About GATE Exam: M Tech Admission
PGEE 2026: PG Entrance Examination (PGEE) is for admission into the following programs.
- Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme which is based on course work.
- Master of Science (M.S) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programmes which require some course work and completion of a research thesis.
Duration of Programmes
- M.Tech : 2 years
- Master of Science by Research : 2 years
- Ph.D : 5 years
SAARC country nationals are eligible for PGEE and will be treated on par with Indian nationals.
Programmes, Exam & Eligibility: Minimum grade criteria: 60% or equivalent in qualifying degree would be needed for admission into all programs mentioned in the table below.

K J Somaiya Institute of Technology M Tech Admission 2026
Eligible applicants of each programme need to appear for a computer-based examination conducted by IIITH, as shown in the above table. The exam will be held in multiple centers across many cities. The syllabi and details for the exams can be found here.
- Admission for M.Tech programmes is solely based on the written exam which involves General Aptitude and Subject Tests.
- M.S & Ph.D. applicants will need to go through an additional interview process.

Interview: Master of Science by Research & Ph.D candidates who are shortlisted based on the PGEE exam will be called for subject interview on campus.

- Ph.D applicants with high GATE score will be shortlisted directly for interview. Shortlisted candidates will be informed before the PGEE exam. Those who are not shortlisted for direct interview will still have to appear for the PGEE exam.
- Any candidate with >=7 GPA on a scale of 10 from any CFTI colleges would become eligible to be shortlisted for Ph.D interviews without PGEE exam post an internal screening process.
- Any NET qualified candidate with current validity would be eligible to be shortlisted for Ph.D interviews without PGEE exam.
- Applicants for Ph.D in Human Sciences program will be asked to submit a research statement after the application deadline. Shortlisting for the interview will be done based on CV and research statement.
The decision on final offer of admission is solely based on the interview performance and the decision of the interview committee is final.
