Profile of Prof. Susan Elias
While St. Stephen’s is traditionally a stronghold for the humanities and liberal arts, Prof. Elias brings a high-powered STEM and Research background to the role:
- Academic Roots: A computer scientist by training, she is a Malayali Christian born and raised in Chennai. She holds a PhD from Anna University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at IIT Madras.
- Professional Expertise: She has over 30 years of experience in engineering education, AI, and research administration. Before this role, she served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Chandigarh University (Lucknow campus).
- Leadership History: She held significant leadership positions at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), where she was the Dean of the School of Electronics Engineering, and at Hindustan University as Director of Research.
- Strategic Research: She is a pioneer in AI and deep tech, having worked on critical projects for the DRDO and the Ministry of Home Affairs, including studying soldier health and cyber security.
