National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar:  The journey began in the year 1989 with the admission of 100 students in three branches, i.e Electronics and Communication Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Textile Technology, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The institute was rechristened as National Institute of Technology and taken over as a fully funded institute of Centre Government with deemed university status on October, 17th 2002, under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development. National Institute of Technology, Rourkela: NIT Rourkela has a diversified academic program with 17 academic departments offering specialized courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels of studies. NIT Jamshedpur was formed in 1960. This was the only REC in the country which was named as RIT (Regional Institute of Technology). Therefore RIT Jamshedpur was actually the REC of undivided Bihar & Jharkhand.The Institute has 11 departments including engineering, science and humanities. The Institute, with 200 faculty, 4000 students, 150 administrative and supporting staff, is a self-contained campus. Birla Institute of Technology , Mesra: Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra was founded in 1955 and has an Intake capacity of 1172. BIT Mesra was also the first institute to develop a Science & Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (BIT-STEP), on campus to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship in its students. It is the first technical institution to establish a Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry way back in 1964 and to establish a static rocket test firing facility.
