Greater Mumbai, 28th Sept. 2022: VijayBhoomi University, India’s first liberal professional university, conducted the Convocation for its first batch of students and the class of 2019 on Sept. 28, 2022.
Prof Jagdish Sheth, Padma Bhushan awardee 2020, the Chief Guest of the Ceremony, remarked that “the pioneering batch of Vijaybhoomi epitomises the liberal professional education in India. Hailing the University as a “NEP sandbox”, he said that the opportunity to cross-polinate across disciplines is truly invaluable.”
Dr Sanjay Dhande, Padma Shri awardee 2013, the former Director of IIT Kanpur and “Guest of Honour” remarked that “the holistic education provided by Vijaybhoomi University presents a novel approach to instil human and professional values in the students”.
Prof. A. Parasuraman, Pro-Chancellor of Vijaybhoomi and Professor Emeritus and Holder of the James W. McLamore Chair in Marketing (endowed by the Burger King Corporation) at the School of Business, University of Miami complimented the graduates for carving one’s unique degree pathways.
Vice Chancellor, Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, a keen proponent of globalization of Indian Business Education presented the University Report and remarked that the practice courses bouquet of Vijaybhoomi is unparalleled at this point and has provided excellent corporate connect to the graduating students. He further added that “It’s a historical and emotional moment for us as this is the first ever NEP compliant batch on the lines of liberal education framework that has graduated today. I on behalf of the entire university congratulate the class of 2019 for graduating today and wish them success in all their future endeavours. During the course of study, the university has taken steps and followed a curriculum to groom the students into T-shaped professionals. The students of the first batch will also be the first alumni of the university and will always be special.”
Mr. Sanjay Padode, President, Vijaybhoomi University who presided the Convocation ceremony underscored that “Graduation ceremonies signify significant turning points in a student’s life. It is a moment when the university presents its graduates to the society. It acknowledges the effort graduating students have put into their studies and accomplishments and inspire them to have high hopes for the future. Because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the last couple of years have been difficult for everyone. Students and faculties have to move to a completely newer mode of teaching and learning. Today, we celebrate everything that we have achieved by cooperating, lending a hand, and keeping each other safe as we take stock of the last couple of years and the tremendous difficulties posed by COVID-19. Each of us probably have different ambitions, and learning is a lifelong process. I implore you all to cling to your hopes and objectives.”
The first batches of graduates from the constituent schools of the University, namely, Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM), The True School of Music, and INSOFE School of Data Science are India’s first NEP compliant undergraduate and postgraduate batches that followed the liberal education framework. In this convocation 22 graduating students were awarded their degrees.
