IIM Kozhikode Hosts 27th Annual Convocation – Celebrates Over 1,300 Graduates across Two Days

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), one of India’s premier institutions, held its 27th Annual Convocation here today, in a grand two-day ceremony. The convocation, conducted in two sessions, conferred degrees to a total of 1,318 students across eight programmes. The Convocation was conducted over a period of two days for the first time in IIM Kozhikode’s history.

IIM Trichy Celebrates 13th Convocation

On Day 1 (April 4, Friday), 677 students from five distinguished regular full-time programmes — Post Graduate Programme (PGP), PGP in Liberal Studies and Management (PGP-LSM), PGP in Finance (PGP-FIN), PGP in Business Leadership (PGP-BL), and the Doctoral Programme in Management (PhD) — received their degrees. Prof. Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, whereas Ms. Radhika Gupta, MD & CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund served as a Guest of Honour.

Day 2 (April 5, Saturday) concluded with the graduation of 641 students from IIMK’s Executive Education programmes, namely the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP – Interactive Learning Mode), the EPGP Kochi Campus, and the PhD in Management – Practice Track for working professionals. Dr V Narayanan, Chairperson, Indian Space Research Organisation, served as the Chief Guest on the occasion.

In a historic academic milestone, 38 Doctoral Degrees were also awarded this year—a record for the institute and double the number from previous years. This includes 29 PhDs from the regular full-time track and 9 PhDs awarded under the Practice Track, IIMK’s unique doctoral programme for working professionals. The achievement stands as a testament to the Institute’s growing stature as a centre for advanced research and academic excellence.

Dr V Narayanan, Chairperson, Indian Space Research Organisation, in his speech brought forth many interesting aspects of India’s incredible space journey and how the country’s Space programme became one of the best in the world after its humble beginning in 1962. He further said India has grown by leaps and bounds in every sector since independence. He attributed the success of important national objectives to teamwork and belief in your capability. He also lauded the Indian education system and emphasised that if given an opportunity “Indian will perform miracles with their abilities”

Prof. Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, commending IIM Kozhikode’s vision of “Globalizing Indian Thought”. Encouraging graduates to stay curious and courageous, he spoke of a world reshaped by the Digital, Biological, and Physical Revolutions, urging students to embrace the unprecedented opportunities these changes offer.

Ms. Radhika Gupta, MD & CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund and Guest of Honour, inspired graduates with her personal story of resilience and success. Her message was clear, “Risk is an expense in the short term and an investment in the long term.” She urged the graduates to make bold choices, value time as their biggest asset, and optimise for growth over instant rewards.

Ms. Vinita Bajoria, Officiating Chairperson and Member of IIMK’s Board of Governors, emphasized the role of business schools in shaping future-ready leaders, saying, “At IIM Kozhikode, we embrace innovation while nurturing intellectual leadership and excellence.”

Speaking about leadership reflections and institutional growth, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIM Kozhikode, highlighted the institution’s rise as a global leader in management education. With 327 scholarly publications in the past year and consistent recognition from international accreditation bodies, IIMK has established itself as a hub of academic excellence. He encouraged graduates to uphold the IIMK values of Satyam (Authenticity), Nityam (Sustainability), and Purnam (Fulfilment), and to move forward as compassionate, bold, and responsible leaders.

IIM Kozhikode maintained its stellar standing, ranking among the Top 3 Management Institutes in India as per NIRF 2024. On the global front, IIMK’s flagship PGP secured the 68th rank in the FT Masters in Management 2024, while its Executive Education ranked 70th globally.
