The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) celebrated a momentous occasion recently at Festyn Palais, Amritsar, with the hosting of its 9th Convocation Ceremony.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the institute’s journey, as degrees were conferred upon over 380 graduating students from the distinguished Class of 2023–25.
This included the ninth batch of the flagship MBA program,
- The third batches of MBA in Business Analytics (MBA-BA),
- MBA in Human Resources (MBA HR),
- The Executive MBA (EMBA)
- Inaugural batch of the MSc in Data Science and Management (MSDSM)—a joint program launched in collaboration with IIT Ropar.
The ceremony was graced by an esteemed lineup of dignitaries, including Dr Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director of Oil India Limited, who served as the Chief Guest; Shri Sanjay Gupta, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIM Amritsar; Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar. The event was also attended by Prof Samir K Srivastava, Director of IIM Amritsar, members of the Board, faculty, staff, media, proud families, and distinguished guests.
Ms Sheila Nair, Member of the Board of Governors, formally opened the 9th Annual Convocation and drawing from her experiences, she encouraged the graduating batch to embrace change, stay endlessly curious, dream without limits and nurture meaningful connections—values that will shape their journey ahead. Following this, Prof Srivastava took centre stage to address the excited graduating class of 2023-2024.

In his address, Prof Srivastava delivered a compelling blend of celebration, institutional pride, and forward-looking vision. He congratulated the graduating class, applauding their perseverance and accomplishments across programs. He marked the graduation of the inaugural batch of the MSc in Data Science and Management, launched in collaboration with IIT Ropar, as a key milestone underscoring the institute’s commitment to interdisciplinary, industry-relevant education.

Reflecting on the year’s achievements, he highlighted IIM Amritsar’s expanding national and international partnerships and its robust placement performance, with over 150 companies in final placements and 125+ summer internships, including 100+ new recruiters. He commended students for securing opportunities across diverse sectors and noted increasing interest from international firms and emerging industries.

Prof Ahuja expressed his appreciation for the collaborative spirit between IIM Amritsar and IIT Ropar, particularly in the successful launch of the MSDSM program. Highlighting the stature of institutions like IITs and IIMs, he reminded graduates that with such a legacy comes great responsibility. He encouraged them to pursue excellence with sincerity, contribute meaningfully to society, and trust that success will follow.
Highlighting scholastic excellence, Prof. Samir K Srivastava presented the Director’s Merit List, a prestigious recognition awarded to the top 10% of performers across all programs. Recognising academic excellence and holistic achievement, IIM Amritsar conferred gold medals during the convocation ceremony, honouring the institute’s highest achievers across programs. The awards were presented by Chief Guest Dr Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director of Oil India Limited.
Dr Ranjit Rath reminded the graduates of their privilege and the contrasting realities that lie ahead, urging them to lead with confidence and conviction. Reflecting on his own journey in the energy sector, he emphasised the value of respecting diverse viewpoints, making bold decisions, and embracing leadership as a mission. Dr. Rath encouraged them to create impact, pursue excellence, and let the world recognise their ingenuity and brilliance.
