National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Post graduate (NEET PG) 2021 Counselling has been put on hold due to an on-going matter in Supreme Court, SC. As per recent updates, the Counselling is likely to start only after November 16, 2021 as SC has adjourned the hearing of EWS, OBC reservation in All India Quota, AIQ till the mentioned date.
NEET PG 2021 Counselling would begin only after SC gives a final verdict on the matter of EWS, OBC reservation in AIQ and a solution is sought. Even today, Centre has given its assurance to the Apex Court that till the next hearing is done i.e., on November 16, 2021, it would not commence with the Counselling.
The matter was being heard by a Bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Vikram Nath and BV Nagarathna. It decided to adjourn the hearing to a later date after a request was made by Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General of India.

In a related update, the Apex Court had also asked questions to Centre on the reasons for adopting the same income criteria for determining the eligibility of EWS and OBC.
Recently, Centre even submitted an affidavit to SC in response to this and mentioned that the same income criteria of Rs. 8 lakh was justified to determine the eligibility of both categories. It has been put in place after much consideration.
NEET PG 2021 Counselling was earlier scheduled to begin from October 25, 2021 to 50% AIQ seats. As the EWS, OBC reservation in AIQ was facing backlash from some parts of the population, it was later decided to put a hold on the Counselling, till the entire matter is settled. Source: Times Now News
