Shamsherganj based 95 years old KG to PG Sharada Vidyalaya, a group of educational institutions celebrated its 95th Anniversary today at it 4acre old premises in the Old City of Hyderabad.

95 years ago, in the year 1922, the school was started exclusively for girls. The school took shape when Purdah system was practiced. Because of which girls used to stay home and were not allowed to move freely. The school took birth in such scenario during which time the founder Yedati Satyanarayana hired four aayas and a vastaad was hired to escort girls to school and send back home safely.

It started with 8 girls and went upto 3000 strength once upon time in the past.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Government of Telangana Kadiyam Srihari who was to grace the Celebrations of its 95years of existence couldn’t make due to his visit Medaram.

Shakuntala Devi, Founder Trustee and Secretary, Jayanth Tagore, Trustee, Lakshmi Naik, President of Governing Council, Pradeep Chander Jain graced the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Jayanth Tagore said, the school stands as testimony to the history of Hyderabad and is one of the very few oldest living schools in the city. We have started this school exclusively for girls when girls were not allowed to get out of house. Since then we have educated thousands of girls, he said.

Pradeep Dev, who graced the occasion as the guest of honour lauded the school management for their contribution towards empowering girl child. The real empowerment starts with education he told the 3000 plus gathering.

Several speakers who spoke on the occasion and recalled the contributed made by its founder Yedati Satyanarayana. Several students who studied reached eminence.

The children performed cultural activities to mark the occasion and celebrate the same.

The institution known earlier as Sri Prasanna Gajanana Sevaka Samajam was instituted in the year 1922 by the late Yedati Satyanarayana, which stressed the urgent need for education among young women at a time when it was not very common to talk about the necessity of educating girls.

In these past 95 years, it instructed 66,500 students, for the most part of the years, it was a free education, and for the last one decade or so, a nominal fee being charged.

Four generations of the so many families studied in this school. It is a KG to PG group of educational institutions which was visited by Mr. Mirza Ismail, the Prime Minister of Nizam in 1947 and Shri Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India in 1963 and late Shri. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, Chief Minister of AP.

It is located on the 4 acres of land and has 56, 819 sq ft built-up area.

95 is a too long for a school to survive. So many people, products, technologies have come and gone. Many animals gone extinct. Public Phone Booths, Pagers, tape recorders, photography Films, Gramphone Records disappeared, But, Sharada Vidyalaya survived and kicking well.
