Sehore, Nov 26: Student unrest at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University’s Sehore, Bhopal campus spiraled into violence late Tuesday night, with a bus and car set ablaze amid allegations of unhygienic food and water leading to a jaundice outbreak.

- Campus Closure: The administration announced a five-day shutdown of the campus on Wednesday, as paramilitary forces were deployed to restore order. Students were seen vacating the premises by afternoon.
- Health Concerns: Students claimed hundreds had fallen ill, with nearly 100 hospitalized. Around 22 students had been diagnosed or preliminarily detected with jaundice symptoms as of November 26.

Police Action: “The situation worsened around 3am, prompting police forces from five stations to rush to the campus and bring the violence under control,” said Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Akash Amalkar to the media. He added that the unrest was triggered after campus guards allegedly assaulted students who had raised concerns.
- Students claim few deaths happened : Some students claim that few deaths happened and this was a repeat incident further alleging that when they raised their concerns, security guards assaulted them which in turn sparked the violent protest. Following which around 4000 students came down to gather and set vehicles ablaze.
The incident has raised serious questions about the campus’ hygiene factors, quality standards and student safety. On behalf of the students, campusutra urges the administration to address health and food standards before reopening.
