Kozhikode, 22 Aug 2026: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) today celebrated its 31st Foundation Day, marking the completion of 30 years of the Institute’s journey in Kerala. From its inception in 1996 as the fifth IIM in the country, the Institute has evolved into one of India’s leading institutions for management education, research and leadership development, overcoming the challenges of geography to emerge as a Top-3 management school in the country.The Foundation Day celebrations were graced by Vice Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, Commandant, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, presided over the celebrations.

Congratulating IIM Kozhikode on the milestone, Vice Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, highlighted the character, dedication and selfless efforts of generations of people who have contributed to building the Institute. Drawing parallels with the Indian Navy, he noted that both institutions transform raw talent into national assets, preparing individuals for larger responsibilities and service to the nation. He also highlighted IIM Kozhikode’s ability to overcome geographical challenges to emerge as a flagship centre of learning, emphasising the shared values of excellence, wisdom, character, values and contribution to society.
Addressing the IIM Kozhikode community, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee congratulated the faculty, staff, students, alumni and stakeholders who have shaped the Institute’s three-decade journey. Calling for a renewed collective pursuit of excellence, he said, “Thirty years is not merely a milestone, but a moment to reflect on what we have built together and what we aspire to build next. IIM Kozhikode’s journey has been shaped by the courage to imagine beyond constraints and the collective pursuit of excellence. As we look ahead, our endeavour must be to deepen our contribution to management education, research and society while remaining rooted in our vision of ‘Globalizing Indian Thought’ and the values of Satyam, Nityam and Purnam — Authenticity, Sustainability and Fulfilment.”
The Foundation Day programme also featured reflections on IIM Kozhikode’s evolution over the past three decades. Prof. Deepa Sethi, Prof. Sudershan Kuntluru and Prof. Surya Prakash Pati shared interesting facets of the Institute’s history and highlighted key milestones in its journey from its establishment in 1996 to its emergence among the Top 3 management institutions in India.

The celebrations also had a special cultural dimension, with Onam festivities organised to mark the occasion. A colourful pookalam depicting IIM Kozhikode’s journey from 1996 to 2026 was the highlight of the celebrations, symbolising the many milestones, people and achievements that have shaped the Institute over three decades.
