The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU) has completed its summer placement for the Post Graduate Programme of 2018. Of the 181 students in the batch, 157 sought placements through the institute and eight opted for the summer entrepreneurship programme offered by IIMU. A total of 46 companies made offers for summer internships, an increase of 9.5% over the previous year. The SPJIMR placements office released detailed placement numbers on Jan. 04, saying that 35% of the 238 participants from the PGDM Class of 2018 were placed with top consulting firms, translating to a 30 per cent increase in the consulting area over the previous batch. The average salary increased to INR 22.24 LPA, up from INR 20.9 LPA the previous year. Over 92 per cent of the PGDM Class of 2018 batch received offers in excess of Rs. 17 lakhs. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) suffer from an acute social diversity deficit in their faculty composition. New data that we have obtained since we first published faculty diversity data at IIM adds even more ballast to the arguments made at the time. Out of 642 faculty members covered by this data, only two are from the Scheduled Castes (SC) group, and only one from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) group (and only 13 belong to the Other Backward Classes or OBC group). An email requesting non-vegetarians to use “only the tray-type plates meant for non-veg dishes” has raked up a controversy on the IIT-Bombay campus. The mail also said: “Please do not use the ‘main’ plates for non-vegetarian dishes.” Every hostel has its own council and is managed by students.
