Smith School of Business, on 19th January 2024 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Amritsar. Various delegates from the government, industry, and academics attended the conference. The conference was graced by the renowned Prof Brent Goldfarb, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at Robert H. Smith School of Business, UMD, USA, as the keynote speaker.

The conference’s theme was “Transformative Pathways for MSMEs: Shaping the Future. ” From digital frontiers to inclusive workplaces, the conference explored transformative pathways for MSMEs, shaping a thriving future for these economic engines. It commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony with the Director of IIM Amritsar, Prof Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, the Chairperson of the 3rd ICMM, Prof Sanket Vatavwala, Prof Brent Goldfarb and esteemed panel members. Prof Nagarajan Ramamoorthy then addressed the gathering and graciously welcomed the guests. He spoke about how we often overlook MSMEs as potential competitors. However, in reality, they comprise a large proportion of economic rivalry. After the Director’s address, Prof Sanket Vatavwala, the driving force behind the 3rd ICMM, delved into the conference’s history and purpose, meticulously setting the stage for a dynamic schedule of events.

Prof Goldfarb’s keynote opened the door to a dynamic panel discussion. He introduced the Dingman Center’s purpose, celebrating the critical contributions of MSMEs and entrepreneurs. His words highlighted the transformative potential of collaboration between scientific advancements and business acumen, how such partnerships can transform even potentially deadly diseases into manageable ones, and the role MSMEs play in such a transformation.
The panel discussion, moderated by Prof Vartika, Assistant Professor, IIM Amritsar, was a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. They had various discussions regarding MSMEs, how Indian government policies like Atmanirbhar Bharat align with their development and the future potential of investing in MSMEs. The esteemed members of the panel were Mr Vinamra Mishra, Director, Technical and Projects, Ministry of MSMEs; Mr Simerjot Singh, GM, DIC Kapurthala; Mr Rajiv Chawla, Chairman, Integrated Association of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises of India, Mr Debajit Das, National Project Coordinator, UNIDO.

The panel discussion was followed by a short lunch, following which Dr Satinder Singh Rekhi, Founder/CEO of R Systems Group, stepped into the spotlight and delved into his insightful and impactful session on the topic “Who’s running your life? You or your monkey brain?”. Dr Rekhi spoke about the science of happiness and spread awareness of the workings of our brains.
The conference will continue with sessions and discussions on the theme for the next two days until 21st January.
