He urged future managers to cultivate skills that transcend borders, enabling them to bridge cultural divides and lead with inclusivity and understanding.
Following the thought-provoking opening remarks, Aarohan 2024 welcomed Ms Ramya Natesan, Director, Microsoft, to the stage. Her address delved into the heart of leading in a globalized world– the intricate dance of fostering collaboration in a digital age where we’ve often never met our counterparts. Ms Natesan’s message resonated with a generation accustomed to virtual interactions. She painted a vivid picture of the challenges inherent in building synergy and trust when colleagues exist across continents, communicating primarily through screens. Yet, her address was one of hope as she explored different effective strategies to overcome the challenges and best utilize the new virtual landscape.

Stepping up to the podium after Ms Natesan’s inspiring address was Mr Suresh Pasumarthi, Director of Engineering and Product Management, SAP Labs India. He took the conversation on diversity beyond the limited purview of gender, race, and caste, urging the audience to embrace a richer, more nuanced understanding of this crucial concept. In Mr Pasumarthi’s vision, diversity wasn’t merely a matter of ticking boxes but a celebration of diverse thoughts, beliefs, skills, and competencies that individuals bring to the table. He emphasized the critical role of divergent thinking in achieving success. “A team needs diverse minds,” he declared, to consider multiple angles, navigate blind spots, and ultimately, bring their best selves to any project, organization, or venture.
Following Mr Pasumarthi’s thought-provoking talk on redefining diversity, Mr Vishy Viswanand, Deputy Managing Director of Max Life Insurance Company Limited, set the stage for a humorous and interactive session with riddles and quizzes. He used these interactions to explore the theme of change in a diverse world. “The biggest difference between Gen Z and the generations that came before is the speed at which change occurs, ” he stated. He urged the audience to keep up with the pace of change to become influential leaders. His message resonated with the aspiring leaders in the room, prompting them to rethink their approach to learning, adaptability, and staying ahead of the curve.

He warned against the pitfalls of pigeonholing people and groups with mere labels. Mr Bhatia also spoke about leadership and how to develop it organically, insisting that the key to cultivating success and leadership is continued learning. He argued that we tend to break away from the learning process as we grow older. However, only constant growth fuels our ability to navigate change and lead diverse teams in a thriving world.
As the event concluded, Dr Ramamoorthy expressed his gratitude to the speakers through tokens of appreciation. To commemorate the occasion, photos were captured, and a video presentation crafted by the Media and Public Relations Cell and 50mm, the photography club of IIM Amritsar, was displayed. A final note of thanks acknowledging the tireless efforts of organizers and participants alike ended the summit.
