December 12, 2023, Kozhikode: Witnessing a paradigm shift in growing demand for Executive Education, IIM Kozhikode today hosted the record-breaking induction ceremony of 16th batch of Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP 16), with as many as 619 students joining the EMBA programme. This is for the first time the programme has inducted 600+ students, a jump of 17% from the previous year. The growing national and global reputation of IIM Kozhikode’s legacy EMBA offering had resulted in 500+ students joining IIMK for three successive years, for batches preceding EPGP-16. Mr. Shailendra Katyal, Managing Director of Lenovo India Pvt Ltd graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode presided over the event.
The current cohort also recorded more than 24% of female participants, which is the highest ever gender diversity that the programme has ever witnessed. The cohort jointly represents 150+ firms and more than 50% of the batch is constituted of participants in the age group of 30-39. Candidates represent diverse areas such as IT/software, public sector, Energy, Aerospace, Education, Consulting, Manufacturing, Automotive, Banking & Insurance etc. Candidates with 06-09 years of experience make up for 32% of the batch. EPGP-16 also stands out for the special IIMK partnership with Deloitte and JSW, witnessing participants nominated for the programme by these two leading companies, who made it to the programme after clearing the rigorous multi-stage process.

Addressing the gathering Mr Shailendra Katyal encouraged the MBA aspirants to reinvent themselves with a focus on developing a learning mind-set with ‘unlearning’ and ‘relearning’ as its key traits. Taking the age-old debate on ‘specialists’ vs ‘generalists’ head-on, he emphasised on the importance of creating ‘pockets of expertise’ to counter future global business challenges which are rapidly transitioning from VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) to BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-Linear and Incomprehensible) world-order. Further, sharing his insights on the giant leaps India has made in the past decades, he further added that it is the best opportunity for the current cohort to build on a platform where India will find its rightful place globally.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, congratulated the candidates for making into the prestigious and globally recognized EMBA programme and recounted how IIM Kozhikode has been pioneering Executive Education since the start of the century, not only in India but in the whole of Asia. He added that “This tremendous response to IIMK’s Executive Programme is a shining testimony to the Institute’s standout academic rigour, high corporate acceptability and rapidly gaining global recognition.” Further, he added “Learning is all about adaptability, curiosity and creativity. IIMK’s EPGP Programme which holds the distinction of getting featured in QS World University Global Executive MBA Rankings 2022 for third-time running, is now among top EMBA courses in the world, after initially making its global debut in 2020.
