Officials have announced several changes to the eligibility criteria for students wishing to appear for the exam. These updates include changes in the number of attempts and eligibility conditions for who can and cannot appear for the exam.
For the JEE Advanced 2025, there are some important changes that all students need to know. First, if a student is given a seat at any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) but does not attend or study there, they will not be allowed to take the JEE Advanced exam in the future.
This rule aims to make sure that students who are allotted seats at IITs actually join and study there. However, students who join preparatory courses at IITs in 2024 will still be able to appear for JEE Advanced.
In another big change, students who perform well in Olympiads, which are special exams in subjects like science, math, and chemistry, can now be considered for admission to IITs. This includes IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, and IIT Gandhinagar.
These Olympiad rank holders will have a new opportunity to get into IITs based on their success in these prestigious competitions.
Prof. Manindra Aggarwal, the Director of IIT Kanpur, which conducted this year’s JEE Mains and Advanced exams, clarified that students who join preparatory courses at IITs in the session of 2024 will still be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced exam.

Additionally, candidates who appeared for their intermediate exams before 2022 will not be eligible this time. One of the key changes this year is the introduction of a limit on the number of attempts. Every candidate will have only three chances to appear for the JEE exam. The top 2.5 lakh candidates who qualify in the JEE Mains exam will be eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam.
