Why is it important to check GO and TLR Ranks while checking the NIRF Overall Ranks?

Engineering Colleges in NIRF 2023 mapped with Graduate Outcome (GO) and Training Learning Research (TLR).

As the annual ritual of madness over NIRF Rankings for this year subsides with colleges almost done with flooding the Social Media proudly with respective college ranks, we dig more into the method to the madness. 

IIT Madras and VIT Vellore (in private category) are consistent performers in all aspects for the past 5 years.

The ‘Graduation Outcome’ (GO) Scores and Training Learning Research (TLR) scores in the NIRF are two parameters to be considered very important. And when these two rankings are also taken into consideration along with the overall NIRF rankings it makes more sense than just the overall rankings.

The overall ranking may often be misleading as you can see below  the some disparities in the overall rankings where a really good and deserving institute is ranked lower. 

  • IIT Jodhpur (Average salary is 24.38 LPA) ranked below Siksha `O` Anusandhan (No average salary mentioned) and SRM University Chennai (Average salary is 6.5 LPA) . 
  • In top 50 Ranking, only 14 private University/institute from engineering education, which is less than 30 % representation.
  • Only 3 private universities are featured in the Top 20 overall ranking.

  • What does ‘Graduation Outcome’ Scores denote ?

As you can see the screenshot below taken from NIRF ‘Graduation Outcomes’ (GO) section in the NIRF Rankings, apparently it is supposed to reflect placement status or outcome of the student at the end of the course. One of the key components students look for while taking admissions. 

How Important Is Graduation Outcome (GO) For a Business Student?

  • What does Training, Learning and Research Outcome (TLR) means ? 

As you can see the screenshot below taken from NIRF ‘Teaching, Learning & Resource (TLR) section in the NIRF Rankings, focus on key information directly proportional to the quality of the institute like : Faculty- Student ratio, how many faculty has a PhD and utilization of funds by the institute in scholarly activities.
