Education Budget 2022: Creation of Digital University is the most important announcement of this budget, very much in line with expectations of the academic fraternity providing much needed continuity to the announcement made during the 2021 budget.
FM Nirmala Sitharaman Presents The Union Budget 2022-23
This shall mark a beginning of an era where personalised learning is made available at doorsteps (at my time, my place, my pace).
The combo of proposed 200 TV channels and creation of high quality E-content made available over multiple channels in regional languages under PM Vidya scheme will augment the serious infrastructure gap in schools across the country especially in the hinterlands. This shall address persistent digital inequities making education accessible, affordable and suitable.
- Proposed ‘Hub and spoke Model’ with best universities hand holding other institutions is in line with the spirit of NEP to promote large multidisciplinary degree granting HEIs.
- Special focus on agri education and research by creation of a special university for such research.
- Renewed focus on skilling for MSMEs and agri sectors, Digital health Ecosystem with IIIT providing tech support.
- Special University and centre of excellence for Urban planning and clean tech.
Budget reflects commitment to take up education and NEP 2020 on war footing
Overall it seems Budget 2022 to be a Pro Growth Budget with sustainability, scalability, capacity building, continuity and self sufficiency at its core. Special impetus and encouragement for start up and clean tech, focus on industrial output, empowering MSMEs and inclusivity – all demonstrated fiscal prudence with aggression but caution.
