Amritsar, 18th August 2026: The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIMAm) hosted a talk by Mr Jürgen Hardt, Member of the German Bundestag and Foreign Policy Spokesperson of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, on the theme “Indo-German Relations: Way Ahead.” The session brought together faculty members and students for an engaging discussion on key aspects of India-Germany relations, with a focus on foreign policy, security and defence, and business relations.

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, marking the beginning of the session. The occasion was attended by Prof Samir K Srivastava, Director, IIMAm, Dr Sujit R Jagadale, Dean, Academics & Programs, IIMAm, Dr Gurbir Singh, Dean, Research and Strategic Initiatives, IIMAm, along with other faculty members and distinguished members of the visiting delegation.

Mr Jürgen Hardt has been a Member of the German Parliament since 2009 and currently serves as the Foreign Policy Spokesperson of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group. He also serves as Deputy on the Committee for Affairs of the European Union and the Defence Committee and leads the Working Group of CDU members and deputy members of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
The visiting delegation also included Mr Franz Xaver Mauerer, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, German Parliament; Mr David Merkle, Interim Director, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), India Office; Mr Ashish Gupta, Head of Programmes, KAS India Office; and Mr Kanishk Vij, Programmes Officer, KAS India Office.
During the interaction, the discussion explored the evolving relationship between India and Germany across the domains of foreign policy, security and defence, and business relations. The session provided participants with an opportunity to gain perspectives on the opportunities and challenges shaping bilateral engagement and the way ahead for stronger cooperation between the two countries.
The discussion also encouraged students to engage with contemporary geopolitical and economic developments and understand their implications for India’s international partnerships. The interactive nature of the session enabled participants to exchange views and gain a broader understanding of the strategic dimensions of Indo-German relations.

The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students engaged with Mr Jürgen Hardt and raised questions on various aspects of Indo-German relations, including foreign policy, security and defence, and business relations. The interaction provided students with an opportunity to seek the guest’s perspectives on contemporary developments and gain a deeper understanding of the evolving relationship between India and Germany.
The event concluded with the felicitation of the distinguished guests by the director of IIMAm, Prof Samir K Srivastava, marking the institute’s appreciation for their participation and contribution to the insightful interaction.
