Bharathidasan University Convocation : Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli celebrated its 38th Convocation at the University Convocation Hall. Bharathidasan University Accredited with A+ and ranked 41st in NIRF celebrated its 38th Annual Convocation on 2nd January 24.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion are Hon. Governor of Tamilnadu R. N Ravi who presided over the function and conferred the degrees. Hon. Chief Minister of Tamilnadu M. K. Stalin was the Guest of Honor and delivered a special address. Hon. Minister of Backward Classes of Welfare and Higher Education of Tamil Nadu R.S. Rajakannappan who is the Pro-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University graced the function.

While addressing the convocation, PM Modi congratulated and extended his best wishes to the graduating students. Bringing up ancient centres of learning such as Nalanda and Takshashila universities, PM Modi said, “Our nation and civilisation have always been centred around knowledge. Some of our ancient universities such as Nalanda and Takshashila are well known and regarded for their grandeur and excellence even today,” as reported by the media.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office, Modi reiterated that the Azadi ka Amrit Kaal in the next 25 years will play a crucial role in helping India become a developed nation. He referred to both economic and cultural aspects when it comes to Viksit Bharat and said Tamil Nadu is a reflection of India’s prosperity and culture.
Stalin further said that implementing social justice and innovations in education has to be the aim of the universities and only those who do that have a bright future.
About Bharathidasan University : Established in February 1982 was named after the great revolutionary Tamil Poet, Bharathidasan (1891-1964). The motto of the University “We will create a brave new world” . The University’s main Campus was initially located in a sprawling area of over 1000 acres in Palkalaiperur. However, as years passed on, the South Campus at Palkalaiperur with the available infrastructure was donated to the newly started Anna University of Technology. Very recently, another portion of the land has been allotted to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Tiruchirappalli. Now the University has a sprawling area of 432.42 acres. Also, the University has a downtown campus at Khajamalai with a sprawling area of 39.99 acres.
The University has 4 Faculties, 16 Schools, 39 Departments and 29 Specialized Research Centres. There are 263 faculty members catering to 2564 students and scholars in the University. The University Departments/Schools are offering 151 programmes including 40 PG programmes in M.A., M.Sc. and M.Tech. The above programmes are conducted under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in Semesters: 31 M.Phil., 33 Ph.D., 19 P.G. Diploma, 11 Diploma and 10 Certificates.
