The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 for management colleges in India has been released. The rankings, which evaluate institutions on various parameters, including teaching, learning, resources, research, and professional practice, show a continued dominance by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). IIM Ahmedabad has retained its top position, a spot it has held for the fifth consecutive year. MDI Gurgaon tops in the Private category swapping positions with XLRI – School of Management, Jamshedpur in the management category.

Among the top 10 MBA institutions in the NIRF India Rankings, seven are IIMs, joined by one IIT and two leading private business schools—MDI Gurgaon and XLRI Jamshedpur.

- IIM Ahmedabad’s Consistent Performance: IIM Ahmedabad has retained its top position, a spot it has held for the fifth consecutive year. The institute is recognized for its strong performance across all NIRF parameters, including teaching quality, global exposure, and placement outcomes.
- Dominance of IIMs: The top 10 list is heavily populated by IIMs, with seven of them included.
- Rank Maintained: IIM A, B, K, IIT Delhi, SPJIMR, IMI Delhi maintained the respective positions
- Movement within the Rankings: IIM Calcutta slipped in its ranking, moving from fifth to seventh place. MDI Gurgaon & SIBM Pune have jumped, surpassing XLRI Jamshedpur to secure the tenth position slipped by 1 place.
- IIM Calcutta slipped 2 places from 5th place to 7th in 2025
- IIT Bombay slipped 4 places from 10th to 14th, in 2025
- IIM Rohtak Slip by 7 places from 12th to 19th, in 2025
- IIM Tiruchirappalli jumped by 11 places from 27th to 16th in 2025
Non-IIM Excellence: The rankings also highlight the quality of MBA / PGDM / Management education at non-IIMs and private institutions. IIT Delhi along with private business schools – MDI Gurgaon and XLRI Jamshedpur, continue to secure their places among the best 10 management colleges in the country.
