2 April 2022, Amritsar. IIM Amritsar awarded MBA degrees to its sixth batch of 212 students, in the convocation ceremony held on 2nd April 2022 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Amritsar. The students received MBA degrees on the recommendation of the academic council as per the IIM Act 2017.
IIM Amritsar MBA Placement Report 2022
The sixth batch of IIM Amritsar had the largest batch size among the third generation IIMs. The batch was the first to start their classes in an online mode, and witnessed a changing landscape of education and job market on account of the pandemic situation in the country. Notwithstanding the uncertainties posed by the pandemic, the sixth batch of IIM Amritsar successfully concluded their placements and, at the same time, excelled at academics.
Event, Convocation Address, Director’s Report
Dr. Alka Mittal, Chairperson and Managing Director, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address virtually. Mr. Sanjay Gupta – CEO, Dainik Jagran, Chairman – BoG of IIM Amritsar, Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, Director, IIM Amritsar, Shri. Balraj Kishore Namdeo, Prof. Harpreet Kaur and Prof. Mahima Gupta, Members, BOG, IIM Amritsar, CS NPS Chawla, Council Member – ICSI, were also present during the convocation ceremony along with the other faculty and staff members of IIM Amritsar. Dr. Mahima Gupta hosted the ceremony.
IIM Amritsar Successfully Completes 100% SIP For 2023 Batch
In her convocation message, Dr. Alka Mittal, the Chief Guest, congratulated all the students and urged them to celebrate and acknowledge their achievements. Taking examples from her life, she said that to have contentment, one must stay genuine and humble, take responsibilities and hard decisions, own up to them and stay focussed at all times. Quoting from Bhagavat Gita, she emphasized on the importance of working hard without worrying about the result. She asked the outgoing batch to be grateful for the difficulties; since that’s how one learns, staying focussed and disciplined throughout them. Hailing from an energy background, she talked about the importance of energy in nation building in detail, and urged the batch to keep in mind the ESG parameters while making any decision. She also hoped that everyone comes together to make the planet a greener one. She concluded her address by reiterating that life is beautiful, and one has to make the best use of it by reading voraciously and taking good care of one’s physical and mental self.
252 Students Awarded MBA Degrees in 4th & 5th Joint Convocation of IIM Amritsar
Shri. Sanjay Gupta, Chairperson of BOG of IIM Amritsar, conferred the degrees on 212 students of the 2020-2022 batch. Extending his delight to be present on such an auspicious day, he said that the institute is living upto its dreams. He congratulated the institute on climbing up the ladders in such a short duration to become one of the top BSchools of the country, and wished that the institute scales even more heights in the future. He urged the students to also give back to the society while the corporate world tests and challenges them in days to come.
Giving students valuable tips on surviving in the corporate world, he urged them to be sure of what they are doing, maintain physical and mental fitness, prioritise, and be themselves. He said that while being new to the industry, the young graduates might face what’s called as the ‘corporate ragging’, and while one should be gracefully accepting the tasks hurled at them, one should never lose their dignity towards oneself or the occupation. He also added that the young graduates will have to manage seniors greater in experience as well as in age, and not showing an air of arrogance, and being humble will help them go a long way in the corporate ladder. He concluded his address by emphasising on the importance of communication, and urged the outgoing batch to keep reading throughout their lives.
IIM Amritsar Conducts MDP for Senior Officials of SJVN
Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, Director, IIM Amritsar started off his address by the strong message, that “Wherever your education takes you, along with your degree, you are also carrying the values of IIM Amritsar; you become the face and torchbearers of the institute. We want you as a product of this institute who gives back to the society. The legacy of IIM Amritsar rests with you.”
He added that the quality of an institute doesn’t reside in its infrastructure or the buildings, but in the faculty members the institute possess. To this point, he said that he’s proud to have a faculty strength of 29 members from premier alma-maters, who in the year ’21-’22 has written 25 reviewed articles and presented in 62 conferences. He added that the institute has added new programs viz. MBA Human Resources, MBA Business Analytics, Executive MBA, and Post-Doctoral Fellowship. He enumerated a few of the awards obtained by the students in various national and international events, like the Global Valuation Olympiad, Parivartan Red Brick Summit, a position in the India Book of Records, etc. Citing the importance of such achievements, he said that it’s not just the academic achievements which makes ones MBA journey fulfilling. He expressed his pride in conducting 3 alumni meets; 1 online and 2 in person (Bangalore and Delhi Chapters). He also took pride in having association with Kedge Business School for an international exchange dual degree program. Talking about the permanent campus, he added that he was hopeful the institute would have it ready by late this year or early next year. Talking about the placement stats, he said that he was proud to have achieved 100% placements, with 1/3rd of the batch getting more than 1 offers. With 50 new companies visiting this year, he expressed his optimism that the college is in the right trajectory, citing the various Management Development Programs, and the MSMEs National Conference the college conducted in this academic year.
IIM Amritsar Concludes Placements for MBA Batch of 2019-21
Prof. Harpreet Kaur, BOG Member and Chairperson, Alumni Affairs congratulated the students on their achievement and officially inducted the outgoing batch as alumni of the institute.
IIM Amritsar Gold Medals
Two gold medals were awarded for scholastic and all-round performance during the convocation. Mr.Saurodeep Chatterjee went on to win the gold medal for outstanding scholastic performance and Mr. Rohit Singh Solanki won the gold medal for outstanding all-round performance.
IIM Amritsar introduces a new program in Data Science and Business Analytics
Mr. Saurodeep Chatterjee, hails from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. While sharing his experience, said, the journey of two years developed him into a different individual altogether. Online-offline modes helped him learn certain adaptability skills. Along with these skills, he focused on things that aligned with his goals and helped him pursue them diligently.
Mr. Rohit Singh Solanki is from Meerut, the city is also an education hub in western Uttar Pradesh. Describing his experience of 2 years at IIM Amritsar, he explained that through multiple transitions offline and online, he learned how to be adaptive in the VUCA world. He feels, in MBA, time management is one of the key skills that students learn. According to Rohit, MBA is such a course where we can apply cross-domain learning and leverage one aspect for another to manage multiple responsibilities.
Also, he said, he came out a much different person, a mentally stronger and more flexible person. He suggested MBA students should be more open to experiments as these instill creativity and great returns. Students should never be afraid of change and challenge as the time during MBA are golden years of learning and students should make the best out of it.
ICSI Gold Medals
In addition to this, ICSI conferred three gold medals upon the top 3 performers of the MBA06 batch. The ICSI Signature Award for standing first in the order of merit was conferred upon Mr. Saurodeep Chatterjee. Mr. Jayesh Jeswani bagged the second ICSI Signature Award for standing second in the order of merit. Mr. Rohit Singh Solanki received the third ICSI Signature Award for standing third in the order of merit.
Apart from these, the director’s merit list was also released, which comprised the top 10% academic performers of the batch. 22 students received this honour from the Director Dr. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy.
CS NPS Chawla, Council Member ICSI, managed to mesmerize the audience with his wit and anecdotes, and started off his address by enumerating the importance of the collaboration with the Company Secretaries with future managers. He congratulated the Director for the first non-virtual convocation during his tenure, and added that change is the only constant in the present world. He shared the 3Cs for success: Confidence, Courage, and Clarity, and finished his speech by urging the outgoing batch to have the ‘fire in the belly ‘ to achieve anything in life.
A note on Placements
Despite the copious challenges and vicissitudes posed by the changing landscape of the job market and education early this decade, IIM Amritsar clinched a befitting conclusion to the academic year 2021-22 by achieving 100% final placements its MBA06 batch. One hundred percent placements for our students are a testament to the continued faith reposed by the recruiters in our students.
Witnessing a record-breaking Year-on-Year growth of 15.38%, the institute successfully placed the large batch of 212 students with outstanding compensations. “The highest annual package of INR 25.21 LPA was received from a domestic firm,” reported the Placement Committee of IIM Amritsar.
