Dr. Amit Patra has taken on the additional responsibility as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Professor Patra is now the Director of IIT Banaras Hindu University (IIT BHU). He will be serving in this new capacity until the regular incumbent assumes office or until further notice.

Professor Patra is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur. He previously held several key leadership positions at the institute, including serving as the Dean of Alumni Affairs and International Relations between 2007 and 2013, and as the Deputy Director from 2021 to 2024. Amit Patra received his B Tech (1984), M Tech (1986), and PhD (1990) degrees from IIT Kharagpur, where he has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering since 1987.
