Section wise Question Pattern :
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) : The VARC section mainly focuses on the English language skills of the candidates. In the VA-RC section, 24 questions are given. A comprehensive paragraph is given to understand how well the candidate has interpreted the English language. In the Verbal Ability, 8 questions will be included primarily as: Para Jumbles, Sentence Correction and Completion and Summary Reading Comprehension Passages. Reading Comprehension, can be of various types, such as vocabulary-based, title-based, etc.
- Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation (DI & LR) : The Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation section tests the proficiency of the candidates in interpreting data and their ability to understand logical assumptions. In this section, a total of 22-24 questions will be included. The questions vary from inequalities to symbol operations, direction sense test, etc. The questions in this section are comparatively easy, and considered to be the maximum scoring section.
The Data Interpretation section may be difficult and time-consuming. Candidates are required to understand the data sets thoroughly to be able to answer the full question sets. The CAT Data Interpretation section should be attempted cautiously, as a single mistake can lead to incorrect answers for the entire set or may lead to starting from the beginning again thus losing out in time.

- Quantitative Aptitude (QA): The Quantitative Aptitude section is a standalone section comprising only numerical-based questions from different Maths topics. A total of 26 questions are included in this section for this year. The complete Quantitative Aptitude section comprises mainly 5 topics, and they are as follows:
- Basic Arithmetic
- Algebra
- Number System
- Geometry & Mensuration
- Modern Math

Section wise Question Pattern :
- Verbal Ability (VA) & Logical Reasoning (LR) : The questions in this section are mostly from topics like critical and analytical reasoning, vocabulary , reading comprehension, logical deductions etc. This section mainly focuses on the English language skills of the candidates and there are 26 MCQ questions of Moderate – high level of difficulty.
- Decision Making (DM) : These types of unique questions are framed to test the Managerial acumen of the candidates. This section consists of a mix of behavioural and mathematical questions in total 21. It is not really a test of theoretical knowledge but challenges your thinking abilities and understanding of real-world problems. Mathematical Questions are basically in the form of Data Interpretation of Logical reasoning sets which requires in-depth analysis. Behavioral and Managerial questions are interesting situation based. Here, you are provided with a situation in which multiple courses of action arise or there are multiple fallouts of a particular action, and you are supposed to identify the correct path/ analysis. Generally, these questions pose ethical/ management/ human resource-related dilemmas that you are expected to address and solve.
- Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation (QA & DI) : Quant & DI section test the students mathematical aptitude , calculation skills and concept application abilities. This is considered as one of the toughest segments of XAT. The Questions of QA & DI may be broadly divided into 2 sections: Quantitative Ability consisting of questions related to numbers, Algebra , Arithmetic , Mensuration, Probability , Geometry etc. The other part of Data Interpretation is based on data tables , graphs , charts , Bar diagram , Data Analysis and comparisons. Total questions from this section will be 28.
- General Knowledge (GK) : This section along with the Essay needs to be completed within 25 mins. Though the GK score is not considered in the final percentile , it does impact the admissions to B Schools, so you should be preparing wisely and plan well to score high in this segment. These 25 questions from GK usually cover both current & static ones comprising topics related to : science & technology , sports , polity , geography , corporate & business world , International, Economy & Banking and Miscellaneous. So one must pay special attention to national events, their dates & significance.
- Essay : The essay topics are mostly based on abstract ideas or social ones based on current affairs or ones which touch the lives of common people. It is advised to make your writing original and interesting.
