IIT Madras and Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) Zanzibar, Tanzania on July 5, 2023, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOM) for setting up the 1st International Campus of IIT at Tanzania.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – the top-notch Institutions of our nation which was inaugurated in 1951 were designed with the necessary dynamism, flexibility of organisation and capacity to adapt in the light of expanding knowledge & changes of socio-economic requirements of modern society.
Currently there are 23 total IITs present in India governed by the Institute of Technology Act 1961 and are declared as important institutes of the nation by the Indian Parliament.
