The Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) celebrated its 10th convocation ceremony, where 630 students from across various engineering and social science fields, including Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Humanities and Social Science, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, and Mechatronics were awarded degrees. Out of the total graduates, 515 were male, and 115 were female. This year, IIT Patna had 335 B Tech, 73 MSc, 90 MTech, and 132 PhD graduates. Out of the 630 graduates, 366 received their degrees in person, while the rest who were absent will have their degrees mailed to them.

Furthermore, with the degrees, several medals and prizes were also awarded to the students who outperformed under categories including the President of India Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Chairman’s Gold Medal, Aryabhatta Gold Medal and Institute Silver Medals. Along with these, Shri Kedar Nath Das Memorial Award, Prof. Dibyendu Mukherjee Prize and Institute Proficiency Prizes were also awarded.

N Kalaiselvi, the director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), attended the event as the chief guest. She discussed in detail the various activities organised by the institute, including academic and research projects, student initiatives, infrastructure development, start-ups, the technology incubation hub (TIH), outreach programmes, industry-academia partnerships, placements, continuing education programs, and alumni activities. She also highlighted UNESCO’s theme for this year, ‘learning for lasting peace,’ which highlights the need for both internal and external peace.

“IIT graduates need to find a balance between science and humanity after being exposed to global excellence. That’s what global organisations like UNESCO are looking for… All young graduates should also step towards making India a developed country by 2047,” N Kalaiselvi said.
