Continuing its acquisition spree in India, US-based technology firm Ebix, Inc has acquired a 60% stake in Indian education firm Smartclass Educational Services Pvt Ltd. Under the conditions of the arrangement, Ebix will cover around $8 million in cash for its position in Smartclass. About 82,486 students will be awarded degrees for the academic year 2016-17 during 7th convocation ceremony of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) on Wednesday. A total of 82,486 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees were awarded for the academic year 2016-17. These include 54,580 degrees for B Tech alone, 3,502 degrees for B Pharm and 8,518 degrees for MBA. A total of 7,558 degrees were awarded to M Tech students and 1,934 degrees to M Pharm students. In just a little over two days, IIM Calcutta has completed its final placement process for the Batch of 2018. Over 130 firms across different sectors were part of the recruitment process and a total of 481 offers were made to the students. Out of all the companies that took part in the process, 50 per cent were from consulting and finance sectors. Consulting sector was the biggest recruiter in IIM Calcutta this year and covered 27 per cent of the batch.
