In line with the National Curriculum Framework for School education embarking on which the New Education Policy (NEP) was framed in the year 2020 aiming to provide universal access to quality education, the Ministry of Education has taken a huge leap towards implementation of the same by announcing that board exams will be conducted twice a year and the students will be allowed to retain the best score. The announcement was made on 23rd August2023.
“In classes 11 and 12, students will have to study two languages and one of them has to be an Indian language,” the final NCF (National Curriculum Framework) document accessed by PTI said.
For Board papers , it has been made mandatory for test developers and evaluators to go through university -certified courses before taking up the task , as directed by MoE NCF.
The NCF addresses education for the age group 3 to 18 years, across the entire range of diverse institutions in India. This is across the four Stages in the 5+3+3+4 Curricular and Pedagogical restructuring of School Education as envisioned in NEP 2020. In order to make the board exams “easier”, the tests will be assessed on the understanding and achievement of competencies instead of long periods of coaching and rote-learning.
NEP 2020 was introduced to bring various reforms in school education as well as higher education including technical education, said the Ministry of Education back in 2020. According to ministry officials, the curriculum, as per the New Education Policy (NEP), is ready and textbooks will be developed on its basis for the 2024 academic session.
